| Roberto Carlos (Roberto Carlos Braga) | ||||||
Apr 19, 1941 Cachoeiro de Itapemirim | The undisputed king of Brazilian popular music At first sight he might be nothing but a Brazilian Julio Iglesias. Many of his songs are as shamelessly romantic and he likes to perform in same nightclub-style venues. But after a while I got hooked on some of his songs, and his band is top quality.Roberto Carlos started his career in the 1960’s as an Elvis inspired rockstar. But has shifted his focus since then towards romantic lovesongs. Every christmas there is a new album, followed by a TV-show. His old songs regularly gain a new life after being used in a brazilian soap. In the 2005 soap Am?rica his song A volta was the song played whenever one of the couples met each other. The highlight of their affair was a visit to a Roberto Carlos show. His private life is full of drama. At age six, Roberto Carlos was involved in a freak train accident, the result being the amputation of part of his left leg, and the subsequent use of a prothesis right below his knee. Two wives died of cancer. And at one point his life was ruled by an obsessive compulsive disorder that made him always wear white and leave a room through the door he entered it. | |||||
