A way to describe Brazil in one word, coined by Edmar Bacha in 1974. Expressing the fact that a small part of the population live the life of citizens of a modern, rich, industrialized country like BELgium, while the great mass live in INDIA like misery. This is certainly still true, but the metaphor of two different countries with totally different cultures belies the shared cultural identy of the two parts of Brazil. Like Jacques Lambert expressed in his book Os Dois Brasis where he recognizes a modern and a archaic Brazil. The same country and culture just divided by decades of development. | ||||||
